Phil Sharp comes from a sailing family and has sailed on yachts from a very young age. He is one of Britain’s most successful offshore sailors. He claimed victory in the 2006 edition of the notorious Route du Rhum solo transatlantic race, and at his first attempt, finished the Solitaire du Figaro in 2011 as the highest Brit in the history of the race. Phil recently set a record for the Length of Britain by sail and strongly endeavours to continue to break records across the globe.
Launched in 2013 under the name Optimus Prime, Imerys is a Match 40 design by Sam Manuard buit at Chantier JPS. That very year, the boat sailed to victory in the Transat Jacques-Vabre under the name GDF Suez. Now skippered by Sharp, Imerys recently finished third in the The Transat bakerly.
